USC recruit Garcia speaks about run-ins with the law
COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - For the first time since his suspension from Gamecock football, star quarterback recruit Stephen Garcia is talking about his run-ins with the law, and what's next.
Stephen Garcia says he's ready to get on with his life. The 19-year-old was put on suspension for the spring after two run-ins with the law.
In February he was charged with public drunkenness. Then two weeks later, Stephen Garcia was accused of keying a professor's car.
He says, "I thought, what else can go wrong. And here I am parked, ready to park in a parking spot and someone cuts me off and parks in the parking spot. So I'm just walking, thinking of all the things that were upsetting me that day and kind of snapped."
"I'm always in the spotlight. Sometimes that's good, sometimes it's bad. This past couple of weeks has been bad."
Stephen Garcia is in the pre-trial intervention program. If he completes it, his record will be cleared.
Next fall, he'll be eligible to rejoin the team
